There is no doubt about the efficiency of the US Postal Service, but sometimes even they get a bit overwhelmed with return mails. These return mails are referred to as UAA (Undeliverable as Addressed) mails. These are the mails that cannot be delivered to the person at the specified address and they must either be forwarded or returned to the sender. This is one of the major reasons behind huge losses incurred in the mailing industry every year.usps not deliverable as addressed meaning
This is a pretty self-explanatory UAA code. It means that the addressee has moved out of the address specified on the mail and he/she has not applied for his/her mail to be forwarded to his/her new address. This can be due to some other reason as well, such as the change of address data being out-of-date. This kind of return mail will have a return code of 23 or 27 from CASS or NCOALink.
A more detailed explanation of this UAA code is that the addressee lives in a rural route or postal section and the mails are not supposed to be delivered to them by the USPS. This kind of return mail will have severable reasons, such as the postal services having outdated labeling lists or the postal addresses being incorrectly written on the parcel’s label.
The last but not the least, this is the most common of all return mails and it can be caused by a number of reasons, such as the addressee’s name being misspelled on the label or it being illegible. This is also the case when crucial information such as the street name, city name, zip code or apartment number is missing.
